So I’ve been spending way too many hours playing Draw Something from OMGPOP and found myself coming across a bunch of amazing drawings from friends. Some were funny, others clever, a few rather offensive yet humorous, and a smidgeon were down-right unbelievable. I figured I’d throw up a site similar to Shit That Siri Says where anyone can submit their drawings, regardless of how politically correct it may or may not be.

Good day misses and misters. In some frightening bout of luck, you might have come across a small side project I started a month ago called Emojicons, possibly from Waxy.org or The Daily What (the first two sites to point traffic). If you came from elsewhere, welcome! Glad to have you aboard ◉‿◉.

Emojicons isn’t much right now, just a way for me to catalog how everyone uses fancy unicode concoctions to express themselves (and also a way for me to find the ones I want to use when needed). Eventually, I hope it’ll become the most comprehensive collection of emoticons online, both in breadth and curation, with a tint of humor that reflects modern internet sentiment. Emoticons need room to grow and evolve, and I hope to bring you all of their infinitely delightful glory through Emojicons.

As always, I’m very appreciative if you spur the project along by merely using anything you find on the site in your daily personal communication. Also, I have a large rework on the site pending, so things may get messy here and there. Bear with me, it’ll be a lot cleaner and faster.

A little over a week ago, I launched a site called NON-STOP NYAN CAT!. If you haven’t seen it, take a few minutes, or a few hours, glancing at it :). Many have, more than I could ever imagine, and more continue to do so. I’m writing this to thank all of you, for the hits, for the tweets, for the virtual pats on the backs, for everything. I couldn’t be more humbled.

This letter of gratitude towards you, wonderful peoples of the internets, has hovered over me ominously since I started getting an influx of traffic on http://nyan.cat. More frequent than not, it’s been the point of grave anxiety and fear. I had no idea what to write. Everyone has been showing me and this darned @nyannyancat so much love that it’s been difficult to collect my thoughts in any coherent piece of prose. @nyannyancat tried to explain it his way to me:

On a more serious note, tons of people were involved in making this whole “Nyan Cat” meme what it is today. First, saraj00n’s GENIUS YouTube video is to blame for starting this ruckus. She mashed up daniWellP’s infectious “Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!” diddy with @prguitarman’s whimsical “pop tart cat” animated GIF and thus, created her own tour de force. I took saraj00n’s work as inspiration and added my own twist with the full-screen browser experience, non-stop music, nyan timer, and ability to tweet your score on http://nyan.cat.

We weren’t solely responsible for making everyone NYANing all around the internet though. You did. You shared the experience with your friends. You trolled people on the internet with some innocuous link. You tweeted out your scores in ALL-CAPS. You made made Minecraft pixel art, Android wallpapers, actual pop tart cats, dubstep remixes, anti-nyan cats, and everything under this rainbow-sprinkled sky. So really, it’s all your fault ;).

Ultimately, the “Nyan Cat” meme is whatever you, the internets, decide to make it. You’re responsible for it’s popularity, and thus control where it goes. So experiment. Be creative. Meditate to http://nyan.cat for 9000 seconds (not right now, in a few days) and see what inspiration materializes. And make it. Put it on the internet. See what happens. I assure you, it’s fun :).

P.S. You’ve probably noticed @nyannyancat’s appearance changing every so often. He’ll continue to do so whenever the urge strikes to change outfits or get a makeover. Why? @nyannyancat is learning. He’s getting older. He’s watching everything that you enjoy about him and trying to improve those parts. And he’s evolving continuously to create a new experience for you, ol’ scraggly meme veteran, so you’ll never get bored of him. You might’ve noticed he bought a rasta hat recently and tricked you into thinking the volume was gonna lower. Expect more of that in the coming days/weeks :).

And for those that need artwork to work with on your variation of “Nyan Cat”, every @nyannyancat graphic file that comes from my cold, lanky fingers will be licensed via some sort of Creative Commons license for you all to futz with. Gimme a bit of time on this though, @nyannyancat demands a lot of attention :3.
